In 1982, Shan Shan Sheng came to the United States to pursue her academic and artistic
interests by attending Mount Holyoke College and the University of Massachusetts at
Amherst, where she earned her Master of Fine Arts Degree, and continued to Harvard
University as an artist-in-residence for two years. In 1989, she was an official artist for the
Asian Art Festival in Chicago, she was one of a hundred distinguished career women for the
city of Chicago. Now she lives and works in San Francisco.
As a professional visual artist, with large-scale artworks installed in four of the world’s ten
tallest buildings. To date, Sheng has completed over 65 large-scale permanent public art projects at locations around the world.
Shan Shan Sheng has held over 45 one-person shows in Europe, Asia, and America,
Her “Open Wall” project was included in the 53rd Venice Biennale as part of an exhibition
organized by the International Association of Art, UNESCO, Italian Committee. In 2010 the
Open Wall project was exhibited at the Chinese theme pavilion in the Shanghai World Expo,
organized by the Shanghai Museum.
Sheng’s public art project “Ocean Wave” at the Port of Miami was awarded the best public art
project by Americans for the Arts in 2007. In 2009, Sheng’s artwork “Bamboo Forest” at the
high-speed train flagship station in Hsinchu, Taiwan, was awarded the best public art
project by the Minister of Culture of Taiwan.
Her works have appeared in select public collections around the world including Harvard
University, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, China National Art Museum, Beijing;
Shanghai International Convention Center, Amoco Building in Chicago, Art Museum of South
Texas, Shanghai Art Museum and Berengo Collection, Venice, Italy. Her museum exhibitions
include Museum Kampa, Prague, Museum Millesgarden, Stockholm, Museum of Fine Art,
Springfield, Massachusetts; Shanghai Museum of Glass, Xian Art Museum, China; Rohsska
Museum for Design and Art, Gothenburg, Sweden; Peace Museum, Chicago; Liberty
Museum, Philadelphia; Shanghai Art Museum, Shanghai, China National Art Museum Beijing,
China, and Peninsular Art Museum, California.

Internationally.
